Bringing a Modern Experience to

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization was looking to update their SharePoint environment and streamline their processes. In order to begin implementing more efficient solutions and build upon them, this required the migration from the Classic Experience to the Modern SharePoint Experience. 


The Need for New Solutions

VA OSDBU was ready to introduce automation and a modern experience to it's users. Unfortunately, legacy design limited customization and user experience. In order to begin implementing more efficient design and solutions, the VA environment needed a major overhaul and migration to the new, modern SharePoint Experience. CPTL used our Agile, DevOps and CICD development methodologies to deploy, design, re-engineer, architect, and  manage new and efficient solutions.

Development with Modern Tools

The CPTL team helped to reengineer the Microsoft SharePoint 365 environment, to make better use of Microsoft SharePoint Communication Sites, Team Sites, and Hub Sites in a complete Microsoft SharePoint redesign. This redesign and re-engineering included implementation of applications such as Microsoft Forms, PowerApps, Power Automate, Power Bi, Microsoft Lists, and Microsoft Teams. 



Migration of all document libraries, apps, lists and sites from the Classic Experience to the Modern SharePoint Experience.

Power Apps

InfoPath forms were recreated as customized applications using Microsoft Power Apps. Multiple canvas applications were created to streamline processes such as support ticketing, and task tracking.

Power Automate

Outdated workflows and automation were recreated in Power Automate to integrate with modern Microsoft Applications.

Modern, Simple, and Efficient Solutions.

The CPTL Team was able to assist in the complete overhaul and migration of old work environments and development, and help to set up the VA OSDBU for new, streamlined processes and automation. This work included:

  • Migration of everything over from the Classic SharePoint Experience to the Modern Experience.
  • Meticulous recreation of any document libraries, apps, and lists and transfer to the new, modern sites.
  • Info path forms were converted into PowerApps and automation was recreated through Power Automate.
  • ITSI Ticket System
  • Contract management system for CMT
  • Personal Accountability System (PAS) which tracks who is in the office and who is working remote in case of emergency.
  • Task Trackers for each directorate to track what team members are working on.
  • Training directors on best practices and SharePoint use.
  • Event planning consolidation flow that grabs all Directorate events and rolls them into one master list.
  • Room booking application that allows employees to book and approve rooms based on their needs with out double booking. 

Optimized Results.

Through our Agile, DevOps and CICD development methodologies our team has deployed, designed, re-engineered, architected, managed, and operated multiple cloud environments within the Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure cloud hosted SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS web and microservices. While supporting our clients, our team architected, built, and tested microservice based multitier cloud native applications. Applications were designed with security in mind, allowing us to bring OSDBU onto Microsoft's latest technology and improve overall user experience.
