Legacy Redesign for the California Army National Guard

The California Army National Guard had the need for the re-creation of legacy workflows and forms from their On-premise environment to be recreated in the Microsoft SharePoint Online environment in
their newly established Microsoft 365 GCC environment.

Inefficient and Outdated Design

The original PWS included providing subject-matter expertise with development in SharePoint Online, including Power Automate and PowerApps, as well as operations and maintenance in supporting SharePoint migrations to Microsoft Army 365. The Capitol Presence development team assessed the Army On-premise environment and helped to establish an effective Microsoft 365 architecture to implement during the recreation.

Development with Modern Tools

The Capitol Presence team created and modified SharePoint lists, forms and workflows (including PowerApps where appropriate) and Power Automate workflows, in order to automate and streamline various business processes throughout CAARNG using specific mobile applications using PowerApps.

Microsoft SharePoint Designer

Instead of a lift and shift migration, the Army opted to do a recreation of the running applications. We rearchitected the environment from a sub site approach to a flat architecture, using Microsoft 365 Hub Sites.

Microsoft Power Platform

Converted Microsoft Info Path forms into Microsoft Power Apps and converted SharePoint Designer workflows into Microsoft Power Automate workflows.

CAARNG Applications

Automated and streamlined various business processes throughout CAARNG including digital signatures, approval workflows, and permission-based access and approval. Creation of PII and support processes that ranged from Mission
Critical, High, Medium, and Low priority.

Modern, Simple, and Efficient Solutions.

All Applications and workflows were documented and went through an approval of supervisor prior to commencement of development of work. Our team worked with end customers to identify business requirements for testing and documenting the deliverables, architecture, restructure, and process development of said applications and workflows. The Development team went through the documentation process and services, categorizing by the number of minor, moderate, and major work efforts, and provided the end client with the project level of effort for the project, delivering a Monthly Report on progress.

In addition to building the application forms and workflows, our team was responsible for executing all tasks through the project development life-cycle including analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and documentation, utilizing industry development methodologies and standards. Our team was also responsible for hands on training with Site Collection Administrators within the J6 Office of CAARNG to ensure members of their team had the capacity to pick up applications post contract deliverables.

Optimized Results.

Capitol Presence was able to modernize and streamline legacy design using Microsoft tools. Low-Code-No-Code development of Power Apps and automations will help to ensure future updates do not require major design overhauls.
